Synopsis

The marriage of Princess Diana and Prince Charles has long since grown cold. Though rumours of affairs and a divorce abound, peace is ordained for the Christmas festivities at the Queen’s Sandringham Estate. There’s eating and drinking, shooting and hunting. Diana knows the game. But this year, things will be profoundly different. Spencer is an imagining of what might have happened during those few fateful days.

Interesting take on Princess Diana’s Sandringham experience. Obvs not accurate but quite good to watch.
I expected it to be somewhat trashy but was hoping for entertainment. But this was a mish-mash, muddled, stupidly inaccurate when it didn’t need to be (guns dangerously close to the beaters in one scene – why?) and sound quality awful, couldn’t make out most of what Diana said.
Maybe not a film for me!
Atmospheric and sad
I found the film very intense and very revealing
This was a dreadful film. None of the actors even closely resembled the real deals apart from Fergie, though she didn’t have a speaking part. A more appropriate title would have been ‘Poor me’, Maybe we are ‘Diana’d out’ with all the recent media quotes from the Sussexes. I will feel embarrassed to confess that I have even seen it.
Diana’s isolation, lack of freedom and mental health problems were well portrayed but the other characters were rather too shadowy and I felt the film lacked substance. Excellent acting by Kristen Stewart and the boys.
I found myself wanting the film to hurry up towards the end!
Inspired, if that is the word, by classic Germanic heavy humour, there was hardly a moment that we could take home as making it even a worthwhile film.
