Synopsis

The latest film from Andrew Haigh (Weekend, 45 Years) is a sensual melodrama about love and loss with inventive touches of magical realism and a killer 80s synth pop soundtrack. Grounded by two great performances from its leads, Andrew Scott plays Adam, a depressed screenwriter who encounters a mysterious neighbour (Paul Mescal), which breaks him out of a rut. As a relationship develops, Adam is preoccupied with memories of the past and returns to his childhood home where his parents appear to be living as they were on the day they died, 30 years before.

A well acted and thoughtful film albeit for some based around a difficult subject matter
Great performances
Frequently difficult to hear the dialogue because of mumbling. The plot was really too opaque. Not sure Stockbridge was ready for this film!

Being of a certain age, I wasn’t quite sure who was a ghost and who wasn’t. Should have read resume and maybe critics before. Still pondering, so it was a thoughtful film.

So glad you showed this. I suspect it will stay with me for some time. Slow paced and with some scenes difficult to watch, the last 10 minutes in particular were an acting tour de force.
Good performances from the two leading men (plus Clare Foy) but the plot took a bit of fathoming out for a while. Interesting choice nevertheless.
