My Mother's Wedding
Synopsis
Heartfelt and funny, the film follows three sisters who return to their childhood home for a momentous weekend: the third wedding of their twice-widowed mother, Diana Frost (Kristin Scott Thomas). The three daughters are from vastly different walks of life: Katherine (Scarlett Johansson) is a Captain in the Royal Navy; Victoria (Sienna Miller) is a Hollywood star; and Georgina (Emily Beecham) is a hospice nurse. Over the weekend, the family gathers to celebrate the new marriage, but mother and daughters alike are forced to revisit the past and confront the future, all with help from a colourful group of unexpected wedding guests.
Critics Views
“It’s an effectively made, beautifully acted piece, but as with many family dramas, much of this could have been sorted out if a few confidences had been shared a few decades earlier. ” Empire Magazine
“My Mother’s Wedding is a perfectly nice film. It’s tough not to think that it might have been much more.” Original-cin
“Considering the rest of the summer’s flotsam, My Mother’s Wedding is hardly a waste of time. In an otherwise grim summer, it goes well with air-conditioning.” The Observer
“My Mother’s Wedding neatly juxtaposes its subplots with the joyous event that serves as its centerpiece.” Boston Globe
“Given how many of Kristin Scott Thomas’ on-screen characters could kill you with a single withering look, it’s perhaps a surprise that her screenwriting and directorial debut is a gentle and cosy affair, about a middle-class British family working through their emotional hang-ups. Think chintzy cottage, idyllic streams and enviable day dresses and you’re halfway there. What’s less surprising is the quality of performance and self-assurance on display.” Empire
