Synopsis

How do you find lasting love in today’s world? For documentary-maker and dating app addict Zoe (Lily James), swiping right has only delivered an endless stream of Mr. Wrongs to her eccentric mother Cath’s (Emma Thompson) dismay. For Zoe’s childhood friend and neighbor Kaz (Shazad Latif), the answer is to follow his parents’ example and opt for an arranged (or “assisted”) marriage to a bright and beautiful bride from Pakistan. As Zoe films his hopeful journey from London to Lahore to marry a stranger chosen by his parents, she begins to wonder if she might have something to learn from a profoundly different approach to finding love.

A typically cheesy film in the British Rom com tradition. Carried by its inherent charm predictable but good performances from leads and some lovely scenes of Lahore and lively dancing. The family value theme was laid on thick and tweaked the heartstrings at the time. But we all knew what the ending would be and it was carried off well by Lily James.

You always knew where it was going but a feel good comedy with attractive characters. Sound quality somewhat muffled which meant missing some of the dialogue, most annoyingly, some of the comic lines.

A fun watch. Outcome may have been predictable but plot had enough to entertain to get us there, even if a bit clunky in places. Some strong performances, primarily from the secondary characters who also had the best lines – would happily have had more of the humour.
